Site Income Report for August 2008
Time for the August tally. This won’t include my spending on AdWords and AdCenter, as I just started using both on August 28th.
My biggest revenue producer as always is Google Adsense. Adsense links seem to produce the best CTR for me and thus the most earnings. Second best is the 160×600 skyscraper in the right column. I had been allowing both image and text ads in that adslot but switched to all-text ads in July and earnings went up.
Adsense for August: $560.75
Next up is Valueclick, which is an ad network that was kind of difficult to get into, and I am not sure why. The only ads of value to produce anything for me at least on Valueclick are popunders and interstitials, which I use sparingly since I find them to be annoying on other sites.
ValueClick for August: $31.80
I had high hopes for AdBrite, but it hasn’t panned out as of yet. One cool thing that Adbrite does is allow you to specify a minimum CPC value and if the AdBrite ad is below that value, AdBrite will show the ad code from a different provider of your choice. In my case, it was Adsense that AdBrite served up for me. Needless to say, the CPC values for AdBrite advertisers were beneath my threshold most of the time. AdBrite serves up a link “Your Ad Here”, which when clicked is supposed to show potential advertisers your stats and entice them to advertise on your site. The problem is the stats are only on the ads shown, which in my case are minimal, so it appears the site in question has no traffic, which is not true. This needs to be reworked by AdBrite.
AdBrite for August: $1.34 (WOOT!)
Burst Media is my oldest advertiser. I’ve been using them for years, as they will let just about any site in, including sites with not much traffic. This is great for new sites just starting out. Unfortunately though, you will never make much with Burst. As traffic on my sites rises and falls, I always seem to earn the same small amount from Burst, so maybe there are nefarious forces at work …
Burst for August: $4.21
Finally, we come to Amazon. You would think that serving up ads of products site visitors might be interested in would be quite lucrative, but for me it just isn’t. Amazon seems to be in quite a lull for my sites lately as the rev numbers are quite low. Probably due to the economy.
Amazon for August: $ 5.22
I also started doing some very minor referrals/sales ads, mostly with SnorgTees.com. This has produced nothing so far.
The grand total for August 2008 is: $603.32.
To be fair I really only spend time and optimize for Adsense, so that speaks for itself. I need to try to improve revenue on the other networks as well.
